The Saga of Greiner Fjall, Great Wolf of the Dread Wolves
Hear now the song of Greiner Fjall,
Great Wolf beneath the boughs of Skogr,
who dreamed while his brothers slept
and heard a howl beyond the stars.
The runes spoke of darkness.
The wise spoke of caution.
Greiner called for banners.
And the Dread Wolves answered.
He gathered every pack beneath his banner,
from the eldest Wolf Guard to the youngest claw.
Into the Sea of Stars they followed him,
and into the storm between worlds.
They emerged beneath a broken heaven.
Here the Emperor sat silent upon a golden throne.
Here men knelt before Him and named Him god.
Here Prospero was ash and brother had slain brother.
Here the traitors hunted to extinction beneath another sky
still crawled among the stars.
The Dread Wolves looked upon this wounded Imperium
and knew why the runes had called them.
Greiner Fjall did not despair.
Greiner Fjall called the hunt.
Let the servants of the Dark Gods learn our name.
Let the traitor remember the teeth of the wolf.
We hunted you beneath another sun.
We broke you in another age.
You escaped us only by being born into another world.
We have found you again.
And somewhere beyond the darkness
walks the father our forebears buried long ago.
Leman Russ lives.
Until the Wolf King is found,
Greiner Fjall shall lead the hunt.
Until the last traitor falls,
the packs of Skogr shall run.
And when this dying galaxy asks
from what forgotten age its saviors came,
let the answer be carried upon the howl:
We are the Dread Wolves.
